Honorary Past President MDA , having chaired MDA 1998-2008 – Mike’s career spans 34 years in Electronics and Telecommunications, with the last 21 years in Mobile communications. He was appointed Director of Cellnet in 1989 with multi-million dollar infra-structure investments and UK interconnect agreements. In 1993 the focus moved to establishing Cellnet’s GSM service and he was elected Chairman of the GSM Association for 1995/96 and served on the Executive Board for 5 years.
Mike’s focus today is on Public Sector use of Telecomms supported by O2/TE Group Research and Development in mobile. He also is a Board member of the UK Children's Council for Internet Safety, and the IET. He has previously served as a Board Member of PhonepayPlus and the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board..
He was appointed VP Technology for O2 in 2000, as Visiting Professor during 2006-08 at the Universities of Surrey, De Montfort and Lancaster and Board Member University of Coventry in 2006.
He holds an honorary Doctorate from the University of Stafforshire, is a Fellow of BCS/ RGS / CIPS/IET and a member of the Royal Television Society.
