Dr. Mike Short receives acknowledgement in the Queen’s annual Birthday Honours

Former Mobile Data Association Chairman Dr. Mike Short has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's annual Birthday Honours list.  The award comes as recognition for his 37-year career in electronics and telecommunications.

Mike was Chairman of the MDA between 1998 and 2008 before being appointed an Honorary President and remains on the board today.

Now IET president and VP of Telefónica Europe, as well as an MDA board member, Mike has commented: "It is a great honour to receive this personally for my contribution to the mobile industry even though many others have played such a great role.

“I am particularly pleased that it helps highlight how much mobile innovation and investment has done for society, skills and services. This is a truly great year to receive my medal after 25 years in the mobile industry and only 20 years since the first digital mobile phone was approved for connection to mobile networks.”

Mike has worked for Phillips, Landis & Gyr and BT.  He is also a former chairman of the Global GSM Association and has served on a variety of boards and government task forces.

The Mobile Data Association extends its congratulations to Mike.
